Description
Rare Vintage Lowenthal Mono Rattrapante Split-Second Chronograph | Valjoux 84 Bovet | 40mm | 1940s
An exceptionally rare and technically fascinating vintage Lowenthal Mono Rattrapante — a split-second chronograph of the highest horological order. Powered by the legendary Valjoux 84 Bovet manual winding movement, this 40mm stainless steel silver dial timepiece retains its original and extremely rare spring-loaded rattrapante wheel — the critical component that enables the split-second function and one of the first parts lost in incomplete examples. The dual-pusher system delivers full rattrapante functionality: the upper pusher starts, stops, and resets the chronograph, while the lower pusher pauses the sweep seconds hand independently — allowing multiple sequential time readings without interrupting the main chronograph. Upon release, the seconds hand snaps back to its correct position with satisfying mechanical precision. Rated 7/10 condition for a 1940s example of this complexity and rarity. A serious collector’s chronograph representing the pinnacle of vintage Swiss split-second watchmaking.
